I first encountered Kellie Lutz in my Communications and Gender class a week ago.  The class was seated in communication professors’ popular discussion circle configuration and she was seated to the right of the professor.  I noticed her dangle moon earrings which looked crafted giving her an earthy artistic flair.  The professor asked the class to share why we chose to take the class.  Kellie spoke first explaining why she enrolled in the class, what she said was very interesting and powerful.  The very next day my Communications Media Writing class professor asked the class to form groups for personal interviews to get to know one another.  I noted Kellie was in this class with me as well, although she had her moon earrings on what stuck in my mind this time were the words she spoke in class the day before.  She walked over to the table and asked to be the third party in our group and I got to know more about this spirited person.  Kellie has spent the last 21 years living in Kenosha, Wisconsin where she was born and raised.  She is currently majoring in communications at the University of Wisconsin Parkside and is minoring in psychology.  Kellie can be seen driving to her two jobs in her reliable 2010 Ford Focus.  One of her jobs is as an ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis) therapist. Kellie has been an ABA therapist for about 1 year and wants to continue working with autistic children and children with ADHD.  Kellie’s second job, which she states is her favorite of the two, is providing respite care for individuals with autism.  Caring for autistic individuals is helping Kellie develop the skills she needs in order to pursue a career working with autism.  Kellie’s extracurricular activities consist of being a member of the Parkside student government and being an independent musician.  Kellie is a solo act and describes herself as a DIY (do it yourself) art collective.  Sometimes she has vocal accompaniment but usually she performs alone.  Kellie plays bass guitar, cello and sings in private and local venues. She has been playing the bass guitar and cello since she was 8 years old, giving her 13 years of musical background.  Kellie has a boyfriend, he drives a Subaru.  Kellie does not have a favorite TV show she watches, she enjoys film.  Kellie prefers to view independent films and her favorite genre is the psychological thriller.  One of the most recent films she watched and recommends is “Amelie” a French film.  One of Kellie’s pet peeves is when people reply “I’m fine” when asked how they are doing.  According to Kellie, “this world is a mess, have a better answer”.
